Downhill slide? Maybe so....Posted Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 11:20 AM
So, I turn 46 years old on Saturday.
I can still remember when I thought 46 was ancient. Now, I'm thinking 115 isn't even ancient. Funny how, as you get older, ages you thought were old, don't seem quite as bad as one thought. Yes, I take longer to do things than I used to. Yes, it takes a lot longer to heal minor injuries than it used to. Yes, mowing the yard is now more of a chore than ever... and it takes about 15 minutes before I can breathe correctly afterwards. Yes, I'm more inclined to sit in my easy chair watching TV than heading out for a walk around town. While all the above is true, I also notice other little differences as I age: I walk slower than I used to... not in such a hurry anymore I guess. My reflexes are a bit slower... takes longer to finish a video game than it used to. It's getting harder and harder to get out of bed in the mornings. I like reading books more than ever. My cynicism and skepticism grow more each day. Sometimes find myself disliking people more and more (which may not have anything to do with getting older really, I'm not sure). My memory isn't near as good as it used to be, especially my short term memory. But, even so, I suppose getting older isn't as bad as I thought it would be when I was in my teens. I'll let you know how I feel about it when I hit 50. 'til next time... |
