A couple of surprises in the NFL playoffs this weekend.
One, according to most of the sports pundits, the Vikings thrashing of the Cowboys was a bit shocking. I must admit, even as a long time diehard Vikes fan, I was a bit shocked at how good our defense played. Here's hoping they can carry that same intensity over to the NFC Championship game against the Saints, who pretty much dismantled a Cardinals team that looked tired and weak after their game against the Packers the week before. If you look closely, the Saints and Vikings are almost mirror images of each other. Both have great quarterbacks. Both have a ton of weapons at their disposal. Both have great kick return games. Both have defenses that when they get a lead can be vicious to opposing quarterbacks. Both play in domes. It should be a great game. The real surprise this weekend was the Jets beating the Chargers. It just goes to show, if you have a great defense that can stop the other teams offense, you have a chance to win every week in the NFL. And how ironic would it be if the Jets were to beat Indianapolis, the team that pulled their starters in week 16 and allowed the Jets to come back and win, and basically allowed them to get in the playoffs in the first place? I'm actually going to root for the Jets just for that reason. Maybe that will give teams next year an added incentive to play out the season instead of resting players the last 2 weeks of the year. How mad do you think the Indy fans will be if they get beat by the team they could have kept out of the playoffs if their starters had just finished that one game? Could be a very interesting NFL Sunday this weekend. Go Vikings! |
